What is Modified Atmosphere Technology ?
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) technology extends the shelf life of fresh foods by modifying the gases inside the package, reducing oxygen, preserving moisture and increasing carbon dioxide. This slows down deterioration, maintaining freshness, weight, color and texture. MAP packages are hermetic, with customizable barriers and moisture control, adapting to each product.
Steps for the development of Packaging Technology (MAP) in the post-harvest laboratory
1. Product Characterization
The respiration rate of the vegetable is investigated if they are climacteric or non-climacteric products, as well as physical properties (size, color, shape, texture, smell, taste), and the optimal conditions to maintain freshness and quality are determined, evaluating the optimal concentration of O2 and CO2.
2. Customized MAP Packaging Design
The appropriate film permeability is established to control the product's gases and a customized MAP packaging solution is offered according to the characteristics of each product and the needs of each client.
3. Post-Harvest Laboratory Tests
Tests in our post-harvest laboratory to ensure optimal results and compliance with high quality standards (time: 30 days).
4. Extended Shelf Life and Market Expansion
Fresher products that retain texture, flavor and nutritional value, allowing long-distance marketing and access to demanding markets.
